Shorts money calculator
Shorts are a volume game. Reported Shorts RPM is $0.03–$0.10 per 1,000 views in any niche — so a million Shorts views is roughly $30–$100 in ad revenue, not thousands.

Why Shorts pay so much less
Shorts ads run between videos in the feed, and the revenue is pooled, then shared across creators based on their share of total Shorts views in each country. There is no per-video auction the way long-form has, so per-view rates stay low even in high-value niches.
The 10 million views rule
Shorts offer a second route into the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million valid Shorts views in 90 days (instead of 4,000 watch hours). For many new channels that is the faster door — just do not expect the views themselves to pay much.
